Year 2 Meet A Real Author!
Year 2 have been reading ‘Bo the Boston Church Mouse’ a book about a mouse (who looks a bit different) who comes to live in Boston. After a few mishaps, Bo finds a home in Boston Stump (our local Parish Church). Last week, Year 2 wrote letters to the author, Victoria Buxton. They asked her lots of questions about the book and the process of writing it. Year 2 were very lucky as they received a video call with Victoria and asked her their questions! The children were buzzing with excitement as they asked questions, listened to answers and showed Victoria some of their work based on Bo. Victoria said “it was a joy” to speak to the Year twos.

This summer, we'll be taking St George's Prep out and about at shows around the area. We'll have interactive activities, refreshments, information about our wonderful school and of course, Bean, our school dog will be there too. Come along and say hello! We'd love to see you!

This week in Cooking Club, we made a healthy pasta salad. The children worked in pairs to prepare the various salad ingredients; cucumber, onion, peppers, olives, cheese and tomatoes. Once all of the ingredientswere prepared, thechildren chose their toppings for their pasta.
We have heard that some of the children enjoyed their pasta salad for their tea last night!
It's our first week of the summer term and we're launching a little peek into school life with our 'I Wonder Wednesday' one minute videos. Here's our first one - we asked the children what their favourite school lunch is. Lots of pupils agreed that pasta was their number one choice!
SPRING TERM 2024
Our annual Easter Egg Hunt took place on the final Monday of the spring term. The older children introduced the younger ones to this St George's tradition and helped them to hunt for chocolate eggs hidden around our grounds.
Year 2 Visit the Lifeboat Station
Year 2 thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the RNLI lifeboat station in Skegness. They met the volunteers and who showed them around the station, explaining what the RNLI do, and the different parts of the boat. The children were full of questions about the boats and what they do. Then, our pupils had a water safety talk, learning about how to stay safe in the water and what to do if they got into trouble in water or saw someone else who was in trouble in the water. Later, in the gift shop the children used their Maths skills to add up the items and work out what they could buy with their £5.
On the way back the children said “this has been the best day” “I loved this trip!” “I really enjoyed seeing the lifeboat”.
Year 2 were wonderful representatives of SGPS - polite, enthusiastic and considerate towards others.

Winners at Lincolnshire Show!
It's official! We have won the Schools Challenge at The 2023 Lincolnshire Show! Our children have been working hard on two challenges - Roots and Hooves and Farming Then, Now and in the Future!
Roots and Hooves - we made our own unique recipe Lincolnshire sausages and a vegetarian alternative - entitled Yellowbelly Produce. The children purchased a rare breed black piglet, fed it and cared for it, before it visited the butcher. They calculated the cost of raising it from purchase to making sausages, made posters to advertise the produce and composed jingles which were aired on our local BBC Radio station. Ady, a butcher from Carl Dunham's Family Butchers, visited school to talk to the children about the sausage making process and to help children to decide on the flavours and herbs available to them. He also helped the children when they visited the shop to make their sausages.
Farming Then, Now and in the Future - the children wrote to their relatives to find out about farming in the past, they investigated the bygone implements at the farm. Year 3 visited R and H Crawfords at Frithville to learn about farming in the past - Mr Crawford showed them his collection of vintage tractors, including those driven by steam. Year 4 visited R and H Crawfords too, but learned about farming now and in the future. Mr Crawford explained about the current issues facing farmers and how they practise regenerative farming. he explained about the future of farming, including the place of robotics and vertical farming. Pre-School and reception classes made a wonderful model of vertical farming using plastic bottles.
Throughout the two days of the show, the public visited the stands in the EXO Centre and the children discussed/explained their work to the passers-by.
The children offered samples of our sausages and cheesy bites and received lots of positive comments about our produce. On the Thursday of the show, children from years 2-6 presented to the judges. We are the champions!!!
Congratulations to us! We won the Boston Schools Sports Partnership cross country event!! In the most awful weather that the spring term can throw at us, a team of cross country runners travelled to a local secondary school, where they competed against stiff opposition from lots of other schools in the area. Our pupils demonstrated true resilience, determination and team spirit, with the boys' team winning their race and the girls finishing a very creditable third, meaning that overall our team was placed first!
A special mention to HB (y5) who finished first in the boys' race!
RNLI visit
Yesterday, (10th March) on a snowy and chilly day, intrepid explorers from year 2 set off to visit the RNLI station at Skegness. The children were armed with lots of questions for the volunteers in order to further their knowledge and understanding of their topic about sailors and water safety. The children were complimented for their wonderful behaviour as they explored the station and found out the information they required.

World Book Day
What a fantastic day we all had, enjoying lots of activities relating to World Book Day. This morning, parents were welcomed into school to share a book with their child/ren. This afternoon, during a special assembly, all of our children met a real author, Mark Baker. Both Lower School and Upper School children enjoyed separate workshops with Mr Baker, learning about his travels around the world and the inspirations for his books.
Thank you to our School Council who raised funds to pay for the author’s visit (and of course to Ms Jackson for organising the day).Italy - Ski Trip 2023
At lunchtime on 5th February, 15 children from years 4-6 flew from Gatwick to Turin Airport, where a luxurious coach was waiting to whisk them away to the Alpine resort of Artesina. Every day our pupils received 2 hours of skiing tuition in the morning, followed by another two hours after lunch. Unsurprisingly, they made fantastic progress throughout the week! Other activities included daily apres-ski sessions, a pizza evening, bumboarding, a quiz night, talent show and dining al fresco. We plan to hold a celebration evening in a few week’s time, so if your child will be in years 4-6 in February 2024, please come along and hear about the fun that this year’s group had as we are planning next year’s trip now.
Year 3 visit to Creswell Crags
Maple Class had a great day at Creswell Crags. They developed their survival skills by learning how to keep warm by making a den with fur walls. They hunted bison using spears. They further developed their science understanding of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks - sorting different rocks according to their features. The rock cycle was fascinating and showed how over millions of years rocks changed. Finally the class explored the wonderful caves and the gorge, where they played instruments and made echoes in the valley. It was a great day out full of learning and fun.
Annual Ski Trip to Italy - preparing for the pistes!
Very soon, 14 pupils from y4-6 will depart Gatwick North Terminal, bound for a small ski resort in the Italian Alps. The party will receive four hours of expert tuition each day for a week. This is SGPS's fifth ski trip and we are really looking forward to returning to see our Italian hosts as we know that our pupils will not only be well looked after, but will make massive progression in their skiing abilities. In the most miserable of conditions, a team of cross country runners, from years 3-6, travelled to Newark to compete at Highfields Preparatory School's annual fixture. St George's competed in very challenging conditions against seven other Prep Schools from Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire. Rain fell continuously throughout the afternoon, but it didn't dampen our competitors' enthusiasm. All of our runners finished and although everyone gave their all, this time we didn't finish in the top three. Many thanks to Highfields Preparatory School for organising a superb afternoon of sport and to our parent supporters for turning out on such a wet afternoon.

Year 6 attended the Cenotaph in Boston, Year 5 held a minute’s silence at the farm and the remaining pupils at school met at the flagpole where representatives from the school council conducted a short service. Mrs Coupland played the last post and everyone paid their respects by holding a minute’s silence. Our Facebook page contains a compilation video of how we marked this important day in our school calendar. Search for posts on 11.11.22.
Little Pig, Little Pig....
When our children attend their farm school session this week, they will be delighted to find twelve rare breed black piglets, born at the weekend. Mrs Bourne, our farm manager, posted the following information on our Lincolnshire Farm School page:
I’m a Piglet Get Me Out of Here update
Day 116 in The Pig Mother House, piglets you have been evicted! What an afternoon we had yesterday!Miriam started with the first piglet arriving at 3.35pm and the last arriving at about 10.50pm. We were all with her in person or supporting via our Pig Cam! She did a fantastic job even when things looked like she may need some extra help. But fortunately Miriam powered on through to successfully deliver 13 piglets. Sadly one was very small and weak and struggled to feed. We did all we could for her but it just wasn’t meant to be.This morning Miriam has 12 healthy piglets, fingers crossed it stays that way. Miss Helen Ashley has made every effort to set up a safe place for the piglets to stay warm under the heat lamp and we will continue to monitor her and the piglets from our Pig Cam, only stepping in if needed, Sunday is a day of peace and rest.Great work teamRugby Festival
Our U10 rugby team travelled to St Hugh's in Woodhall Spa on 2nd November to take part in a tag rugby festival, playing against teams from local Prep Schools. Our team played good quality rugby with lots of tries being scored. Both Mr Mark and Mr Love have been coaching the team at the PRSA - it was great to see the coaching points implemented in the team's play.We are very proud of the individuals who participated today - they grew in confidence and resilience on the field and received two awards for their enjoyment and teamwork. The team played 5 matches - winning 3, with 1 draw and 1 loss..Thank you to our travelling parents for your ongoing support of the team and also to St. Hugh's School - Woodhall Spa for your wonderful hospitality. Conker Championships
We held our annual Conker Championships on the afternoon of Wednesday 19th October - a great way to learn about this ancient activity! There were lots of tongues sticking out as children concentrated on hitting their opponent's conker - great fun was had by all - both big and small! Thank you to all of the parents and friends of the school who came along to play too....More photos can be found on our Facebook page.
Harvest Festival 2022
Where else would you hold a Harvest Festival? Willow Farm was the perfect venue for this year's harvest celebration! With a mixture of songs, prayers, performances and readings, parents and visitors were treated to a wonderful afternoon in a most fitting environment.Thank you again to the Mercer family for allowing us to use their farm buildings and to Langrick Cafe for permitting us to use their car park. Also, to Miss Ashley and Mr Mark for transporting all of the children to the farm. MARY POPPINS
Children in years 3-6 enjoyed a visit to London to see the musical Mary Poppins yesterday. Everyone had a fantastic time! More photos can be found on our Facebook page- search for posts on 30.9.22. As always, we received lots of compliments about the behaviour of our children.
TAG RUGBY TOURNAMENT
In the first sporting outing of the new school year, our tag rugby team travelled to the nearby town of Spalding to participate in a 'triangular fixture against the hosts, Ayscoughee Hall School and The Peterborough School. This was an opportunity for some newer members of the team to experience a friendly competition before more serious matches later in the term.
Both sides were well drilled and experienced, but once SGPS managed to move the ball to the wings, the tries started to appear! For more photos of the team in action, visit our Facebook page.

Graduation
We held two 'graduation' events to celebrate the end of the school year on 13th July. This annual event has been sadly missing from our school calendar for the last two years, so it was fantastic to see its return at long last! The morning event included Little Dragons Pre-School, Willow Class (FS2), Ash Class (year 1) and Chestnut Class (year 2). Each class sang a song and every child received a special certificate. We said goodbye to some children who were leaving, as well as Miss Austin who leaves to start her maternity leave. Children who are moving from Little Dragons into our reception class received their school tie.Parents who have children in both key stages enjoyed lunch on the lawn with their children before the afternoon event began which involved Key Stage 2 pupils. The outgoing Head Boy and Head Girl made wonderful speeches before revealing the identity of the new Head Boy and Head Girl. Every year 6 pupil read out their memories and thanks, whilst years 3, 4 and 5 sang a song and received an end of year certificate.Ms Jackson, y6 class teacher made a speech and presented certificates and year books to her pupils.Towards the end of the afternoon, it was great to welcome back past pupils to present the trophies they won last year to the new recipients. Thank you to these pupils for making an effort to attend - it was lovely to see you again! Each year 6 pupil was preented with a special dragon statuette - thank you to Regimental Statuette Manufacturers for providing these wonderful keepsakes. The afternoon was rounded off by the arrival of a stretch Hummer, organised by a parent, which transported the 15 very excited children to an evening of entertainment.More photos can be found on our Facebook page.Park Day
What else do you do on the final Monday of term when it's too hot to work? The answer...spend the day at the local park! That's just what we did! There were games of football, tennis and rounders, climbing on the equipment, stories and games in the shade, then a picnic lunch and a visit from the ice cream van.
Find the photos here.
Summer Fayre
The weather on 9th July was absolutely perfect for a summer Fayre. This year, the annual PTA event was held at Willow Farm and featured activities such as lawnmower racing, (with a scoreboard like Top Gear) a baking competition, slip 'n' slide, class stalls, a hog roast, talent show and a tombola. The afternoon passed so quickly with so much to do and before we knew it over £1300 had been raised! Thank you to everyone involved. Same time next year?

Sports Day
Our annual event at The Princess Royal Sports Arena was, yet again, a huge success. Head over to our Facebook page for a gallery of photos. Thank you to Carl at 166 Photography for stepping in at very short notice when our usual photographer was unable to attend.

Year 6 giving back to the school
As year 6 prepare to leave school in a few day's time, they have put their energies into sprucing up one of the areas of our outdoor space in order to create a special area where children can enjoy some peace and quiet at break time. Our oldest pupils have given our old growing area a much needed makeover. Gardening will now become on of the activities offered at our farm, rendering this space a little redundant. Following its transformation, spaces will be created so that children who do not want to run around at break time can find the space to sit and chat or maybe indulge in some quiet reading. Our next stage is to plant some sensory plants. Watch this space!
Thank you year 6, we are very grateful for your hard work.
Ex pupil on TV
SM, who left St George's Prep a few years ago, was responsible for our school acquiring our school dog, Bean. She wrote an incredibly persuasive letter, detailing all of the benefits of dog ownership and how having a dog would improve pupil well-being. Fast forward a few years and S is still involved with dogs, although interestingly, she doesn't own a dog of her own. S was part of a flyball team which won the competition at this year's prestigious Crufts Show.
S appeared on this week's Blue Peter programme. You can watch her here, start the video at 5mins 40secs. Congratulations S, we're very proud of your success!

Success at the Lincolnshire Show
Mabel, Miriam and Ethel all attended the Lincolnshire Show this week. Nothing unusual in that you may think, but Mabel, Miriam and Ethel are all rare breed black pigs who live at the farm where our children spend a day a fortnight, immersing themselves in hands-on learning. This week, some of our pupils were lucky enough to show the black pigs at county level, with great success!MM (year 5) received 2nd place, TM (year 6) was placed 3rd and other pupils scooped other paces in the young pig handler section.
Huge thanks go to Miss Ashley for training our pupils to handle her pigs. Miss Ashley won the Champion of Champions trophy with her black pig, Miriam, so our children can be sure that they are learning from the very best! Coincidentally, Miss Ashley's parents won the very same trophy 22 years ago - it must be in the genes!
Congratulations to Miss Ashley and our young pig handlers. If you would like to know more about this event, please visit our Facebook page and search for articles dated 22nd and 23rd June.
The Lincolnshire Show
Take a look at our magnificent stand in the schools building at the Lincolnshire Showground. Mrs Bourne (our farm manager) and Mrs Hodgson (year 4 teacher and science lead) have worked tirelessly with all classes on a special Wildlife Haven project to enter the schools competition at the show. Our pupils had to present their project to the team of judges. they spoke with confidence and were able to explain how they have worked with local experts (farmers, a plant nursery, an agronomist and a seed merchant) to bring the project to life. The Wildlife Haven has involved skills across the curriculum - Maths, English, Science, Art, Design and Technology, etc and has also encompassed the Queen's Canopy scheme - planting a woodland in honour of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
On the final day of the show, the children were delighted to be awarded second place in their category. Thank you to everyone who helped to achieve this wonderful result!
Friends of St George's Preparatory School Quiz Night
What a fantastic evening everyone had at the recent Family Quiz Night, organised by our wonderful PTA. With questions and activities for the whole family and a wonderful ploughman's platter, a great night was had by all! The results were very close and there was a tie between three teams for first place. The Dinnerladies team won the quiz and trophy for their more accurate answer regarding the distance around the circumference of the world!
With grateful thanks to everyone who made the evening a huge success and well done to the children who had a late bedtime on Friday night! Over £300 was raised for PTA funds. The next event is our Summer Fair on 9th July. More details will be released nearer the time.
A Trio of Awards
We received an amazing three awards this week (beginning 6th June 2022).
We entered the national Primary Awards in Green Education in Schools competition with our Wildlife Haven project and received the news that out of 140 schools, we were judged as Regional Winners. As you will see in the photo, our children were very excited to hear about the news of our award! We also win £500 for Willow Farm.
Mrs Bourne has been shortlisted in the Lincolnshire Excellence in Education Awards (environment category) for the work that she does at our farm. She will find out if she is a category winner at an awards evening on July 7th.
We have achieved the School Games Gold Medal for our promotion of sports for all, competition within and out of school and creation of sports ambassadors.
Woohoo! A very successful week, with congratulations to everyone who has helped to achieve this wonderful outcome!
The Queen's Platinum Jubilee
On Thursday 26th May, we celebrated the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in true British style by holding the next best thing to a street party... a playground party! Every child and staff member in the school enjoyed a buffet-style lunch al fresco. Later in the afternoon parents were invited to an informal music concert on the lawn. We began by standing to sing the National Anthem and the Head Boy and Head Girl addressed the audience. Children of all ages participated by singing or playing a variety of instruments. The whole school sang a special song to mark the Monarch's long reign. It was a very special day, which I'm sure the children will remember for a long time to come! Thank you to everyone who made the day a huge success.
More photos of these events can be found on our Facebook page - searching for posts on 26.5.22.
Year 6 Residential
Overstrand Hall, near Cromer, Norfolk was the destination for year 6 when they left school on Wednesday morning. They enjoyed an action-packed two days, participating in activities such as laser tag, caving, abseiling and Jacob's Ladder. Everyone had a wonderful time, demonstrating super teamwork in the challenges and overcoming their fears.
All the Fun of the Fair
Year 2 are studying local traditions in their history work this term. They visited Boston's annual May Fair to experience this local event, which dates back centuries to when merchants traded sheep, silks and spices. The children were allowed to choose what to spend their budget on - some super maths skills were used and lots of fun was had by all.
Queen's Scout!
HUGE congratulations go to Miss Berg who has received her Queen’s Scout award in a special ceremony. This is the ultimate award in scouting, reflecting the many hours of voluntary work she undertakes outside of school. It also means that Miss Berg can attend St. George’s Day parades at Windsor Castle.Summer Term Rockstars!
In our first assembly of the summer term, times tables certificates were distributed to the following pupils who have been working hard on the TTRockstars maths programme:
JA (y1) most points KS1
GA (y3) most points LKS2
GM (y5) most points UKS2
AL (y4) fastest answering speed.
CA, NA, SF, AL and GM are now recognised as Rock Stars! Great work everyone. Keep rocking!
Year 4 - historical walking tour of Boston
During the final week of term, year 4 found out about the history of our local area with historian and author, Mrs Keightley. The rain fell continuously throughout the trip, but year 4 didn't let this dampen their spirit. they remained focused and asked some super questions to find out more about the town.
TTRockstars
On the final day of the Spring Term we launched TTRockstars, an online programme which enables children to achieve automatic recall of times tables and division facts. It's great to see that year 4 have already started to play and are earning coins. Come on everybody, log in and join in the fun!Easter Egg Hunt
The feeling associated with being part of the St George’s family was so apparent this morning during our annual Easter Egg Hunt. Hundreds of eggs were scattered by the Easter bunny and the children set off in search of a chocolate treat or two. Year 6 each took a nursery child by the hand and helped him/her to look for eggs. The eggs were returned to baskets bearing the names of our house teams: Kielder, Thetford, Dean and Sherwood. The final number of eggs placed in each basket has been totalled and the winning house will be announced in assembly tomorrow. Well done to everyone, but a special shout-out goes to year 6 for their kindness towards our very youngest children. You epitomised the ethos of our school, well done!EDIT- congratulations to Sherwood for winning our Easter Egg Hunt. They collected a whopping 818 points! For more photos, please see our Facebook page.Art in the Sunshine
Year 4 enjoyed their art lesson in the beautiful March sunshine this week. They sketched flowers, then used watercolours to add subtle colour to their line drawings.
Cross Country in the Rain!
On Thursday afternoon, whilst most of the school were warm and dry indoors, fifteen children from years 4-6 ran in Ayscoughee Hall School’s cross countrry competition, battling against torrential rain. They competed against five other Prep Schools, wi1th the under 9s age groups running one lap of a very long course and the u11s completing two gruelling laps. Unusually, for local events, this competition featured hills which became very slippery given the conditions. All of our runners completed the course, with HB (y4) being placed second individually. We are waiting to hear about team places as, unfortunately, all of the score sheets were saturated! Thank you to Ayscoughee Hall School for inviting us today and well done to all of our sporting superstars. We hope that you have dried out!Comic Relief Day
This year, Comic Relief asked children to come to school dressed as a superhero. As you will see from the photo, the staff came dressed as themselves! We raised £107.48 for this worthy charity. Well done everyone!
County Success
Three of our year 6 girls have been chosen for the Lincolnshire u11 county performance squad. We are very proud of their ability and wish them every success in their forthcoming matches.
Soil Sampling
Year 4 pupils are currently studying a ‘rocks and soils’ unit in their science work. The farm provides an ideal environment to further their knowledge and to take their learning beyond the requirements of the National Curriculum. Mrs Bourne (our farm manager) provides a review after each session. Here is her report on yesterday’s learning. We ventured over to the land, we are going to turn in to our “Habitat Haven” to do some soil profiling. The children have been looking at soil in science and after taking a sample of soil from that area in their last session to look closely at soil types, this week they are looking at the soil profile. For this we needed to dig down and take samples at regular intervals. At each interval the children took a sample to stick to their individual profiling cards. The children noticed that the soil not only changed colour it also changed texture. The top layer (A) was dark brown and stuck together. The middle layer (B) was slightly lighter in colour, but still wet and stuck together. However, the bottom layer (C) was lighter still, more orange in colour and dry.The children helped to dig down, firstly we used a metal stake and a ‘post basher’ to make the first part of the hole. The children were taught how to use the post basher correctly and were reminded to bend with their knees and not with their back. I worked with each child to knock the metal stake into the ground safely. Once we had started the hole off, we then worked as a team to dig deep enough to get the soil samples. The children and I managed to dig down approximately 70cm and it was a lot harder than the children originally thought!Sporting Successes
Wednesday 9th MarchCongratulations to our phenomenal year 6 netball team who played in five back to back matches at St Hugh’s, against the hosts and Highfields today. Our team won every single match, only conceding two goals in the five matches!Thursday 10th MarchThe good news keeps on coming!Today, our pupils competed against other local small schools in the Lincolnshire Schools Sports Partnership's cross country competition at Thomas Middlecott School, Kirton. I'm pleased to announce that both the boys and girls (who competed in separate events) were placed second against some very tough opposition from the other schools. Our pupils showed great determination and sportsmanship - well done to all involved!Boxes of Hope
Our children have been collecting items for ‘Boxes of Hope,’ an organisation which is co-ordinating the distribution of care packages in Ukraine.Today, all of the items were collected and our children helped to load the van. We’re pleased that we have been able to do something to help those in need and we hope that at this difficult time, our donations help a little.World Book Day
Every child participated in World Book Day by dressing up as a character from a book. During the day, every class carried out an activity related to A.A. Mine’s lovable character, Winnie The Pooh. As an homage to Pooh and his friends, children were asked to bake a cake or cookies, decorated in a Winnie the Pooh theme. These were judged during the afternoon, then devoured by hungry pupils and their parents when they attended our book fair. Years 5 and 6 did a sterling job of cake serving and book selling, aided by our PTA who served refreshments. A great afternoon was had by all. We look forward to celebrating this special day in our calendar again next year.
Year 6 can be very persuasive!
As part of their work on the Romans, year 6 discussed whether it was fair that animals were used to provide entertainment at the Colosseum. The children wrote their own personal statements, using emotive and persuasive language. They took their work onto the playground and stood on lines to indicate how they felt about the original statement. Then as each person read out their view, the children were allowed to change their mind about their levels of agreement by moving from line to line. More photos available here.
Staff Training
We are committed to ongoing professional development for our staff as our children deserve only the very best opportunities. This week, as part of our staff meeting, our pre-school staff arranged training on early phonics. In the same way that our teaching is very practical, so was the staff training. You can read more about what happened here.
Exciting project!
Mrs Hodgson led today's back to school assembly and explained an exciting new project which will involve the whole school. The children will bring home further information shortly and details will be placed on the Weekly Round Up.
Les Deux Alpes
Quick thinking and a real desire for the ski trip to go ahead resulted in our ski trip booking for Italy being changed at the last minute when new Italian Covid restrictions were put in place. On Sunday 30th January, sixteen pupils flew from Luton Airport to Lyon for a week's ski trip in the French Alps. Every child received four hours of expert tuition each day, resulting in them making rapid progress. Our beginner group confidently skied some technically demanding blue slopes by the end of the week, with the advanced group navigating red and black runs as well as learning how to jump and do bordercross (an Olympic event).
Our pupils were able to practise their conversational French language skills and learn more about the French way of life. The children enjoyed shopping and purchasing their own lunch. During their stay, daily diaries were completed, encouraging individuals to carry out self reflection and identify what they need to work on with their instructors the following day.
More photos can be found on our Facebook page.
新年快乐
Happy Chinese New Year
We are a little late in celebrating this year, due to our recent ski trip to France. Thanks to Mr Peng at the Zhu Guang Chinese Restaurant all of the children and staff enjoyed a Chinese meal. Mr Peng supplied chopsticks and fortune cookies too. The children who were at the farm also enjoyed a Chinese takeaway, ensuring that they did not miss out!
More photos can be viewed on our Facebook page.
Five out of Five!
A very successful afternoon for our football team at St Hugh’s. Our players from years 4-6 played five ten minute games against Wellow, Highfields, Grantham Prep, St Hugh’s and Greenwich House. Although they were friendly matches (without official scores), we won each one! Thank you to our hosts St. Hugh's School - Woodhall Spa for organising a great event. View the album here.
Nine Lessons and Carols
How many schools can say that their Nativity performance took place at a real farm with real animals? The Mercer family kindly allowed us to use their big barn to stage our Christmas production - 'Nine Lessons and Carols' which was specially written by our staff to bring together our whole school in a single performance.Upon arrival parents were treated to mulled wine (non alcoholic) and hot chocolate in the crew yard, then they sat on straw bales to be magically transported by our story tellers to the Far East two thousand years ago. With singing, dancing, readings and a solo performance by PC (y5) it was a perfect start to the Christmas period.Thank you to the staff who have worked tirelessly to create today's spectacle; we hope that all those who came went away with a little Christmas sparkle!More photos available on our Facebook page.Naming our Minibuses
We recently ran a competition asking the children to name our two minibuses. There were lots of super suggestions, but MH (y4) chose the winning names of Guinevere and Galahad. As you can see MH is very pleased to see his name on the front of bus 1
Highfields Cross Country
Highfields School kindly provided refreshments which we enjoyed in their grounds whilst waiting for the presentations. Thank you to Highfields School for hosting the event and to the other schools - Ranby House, Burton Hathow, Nottingham High School and Wellow for a great afternoon of sport.Well done to all of our boys and girls who competed - they all finished the course. Thank you to Dr Hockham for his encouragement and for training our team.Boston Christmas Market
Our wonderful PTA raised an amazing £435 by holding a tombola stall on Boston's Christmas Market yesterday (25th November). Thank you to everyone who helped to raise this super amount.
Children in Need
On Friday 19th November, a non uniform day resulted in an amazing amount of money being donated to this worthwhile charity.
Remembrance Day
At 11 o'clock on the 11th November, the whole school stood in silence for two minutes to remember those who gave their tomorrow for our today. The full story can be read here.
Football Tournament
On 11th November, our football team, comprising children from years 4-6 participated in a tournament at the Boston United Community Stadium against nine other local primary schools in the Lincolnshire Sports Partnership Small Schools football competition. The team were treated to a tour of the new stadium and given an insight into the life of a professional footballer. Against fierce competition from the other schools, the St George's team showed resilience, teamwork and fighting spirit, resulting in them winning their group and reaching the finals. At full time, the score stood at 1-1; unfortunately the golden goal was scored by the opposing team. St George's therefore achieved a very credible second place. Congratulations to Sutterton/Swineshead School - the eventual winners. View more photos of the event here.
Rugby Festival
Now that restrictions are lifting we are thrilled to be able to start competing in sporting events against other schools.Eleven children from St George's Prep travelled to St Hugh's in Woodhall Spa today to play in a tag rugby festival. The matches were split into an under 8s group and an under 9s group and each school payed the other schools taking part: St Hugh's, Grantham Prep, Ayscoughee Hall, Highfields, Wellow and Greenwich House. Our teams played incredibly well and visibly improved their teamwork and understanding of the game throughout the festival. Each player showed great resilience playing through the rain and everyone had a wonderful time.Although Festival scores are not officially recorded, our U9's were undefeated in each game and although our U8's were not as successful they played with great spirit and determination.Thankyou to the parents who came along to support our teams today your encouragement was great to hear! This term we are also looking forward to a swimming gala and 2 cross country fixtures, so watch this space for further updates!Harvest Festival
Our Harvest Festival took place on 15th October. We were overwhelmed by the generosity of our families, with fresh vegetables, packets and jars donated. After the service, goods were delivered to Centrepoint - a local facility which provides support and meals for the homeless.
Every year group performed something different - poems, songs, historical facts about farming, an interview with a farmer, but maybe most memorable was year 6's harvest rap!
For more photos of this special occasion, please visit:our Facebook page - Harvest Festival
The video of our Harvest Festival is now available on YouTube!
Please like and subscribe to our You Tube channel to stay up to date with new content.Conker Championships
On 11th October, children from Pre-School to year 6 gathered on the lawn in anticipation of our annual Conker Championships. Last year, due to Covid, this calendar favourite could not take place, but this year it was great to see so many parents in attendance, keen and eager to participate. Children played against adults and others from different year groups and fun was had by all.
For more photos, please visit: our Facebook page: Bonkers About Conkers.
Sports Day
On Tuesday 22nd July, all pupils (including our Little Dragons) participated in Sports Day. This was the first time in two years that our parents had been able to watch their children compete. With strict social distancing in the stands and other Covid measures in place, the parents enjoyed an afternoon of fun-filled, yet nail-biting races. Special mention must go to NP for his sportsmanship in checking that a fellow competitor was OK after a tumble, nearly sacrificing his own win. In the long distance race, some of the children who had already finished ran back to encourage those at the back across the finishing line. Take a look at a selection of photos from the day. The full album can be found on our Facebook page.
NEWS
Summer Term 2021 sees the launch of Farm School.
The children have known for a while that we were keeping a new project secret. In fact the work started in the Christmas holidays with the renovation of a barn on a working sheep farm. Our families found out via a Facebook live reveal on the final Friday of the Easter holidays when they saw the inside of the barn for the first time
St George's Preparatory School was founded on the principles of Forest School and Maslow's hierarchy of needs. This approach has followed through into Farm School with children now meeting the needs of the animals - feeding, grooming, mucking out. Our animals include pigs, lambs, chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, Pygmy goats and two ponies. The vast majority of animals have been rescued and the children will help with their care and rehabilitation.
Each class will visit the farm (a short distance from school) once a fortnight and will follow the farm through the seasons, for example, watching the sheep being sheared, lambs being born and horses being shod. In time trees and crops will be planted - with the intention of growing food for the animals and for our school kitchen.
During the summer phases 2 and 3 will take place on the farm, leading to more exciting developments. Watch this space or visit our Facebook page for more news.
Meet our two ponies - Reuben and Thunder. They have only just arrived at Willow Farm and are still settling in.
The pigs were the first animals to arrive at the farm. We have 6 boys, the smallest one has been named Chipolata!
