At St George’s Preparatory School, we believe that we should prepare and equip our children to take their place in the world. We seek to develop in our pupils the qualities such as tolerance, empathy, thoughtfulness, kindness and a sense of right and wrong. As the composition of the population of Boston is predominantly White European, we will ensure that our pupils are exposed to cultures and beliefs other than their own. PSHE, Relationships and Citizenship will be taught in a cross curricular way alongside RE so that children see the relevance of their learning and the links (similarities and differences) between the areas.
We seek to develop a moral compass in our children – one which instils in our pupils their obligation to do the right thing. We believe that the teaching of RE, PSHE, Relationships and Citizenship should give opportunities for children to experience, discuss, question, explore, research and conclude in order to understand and make sense of the diverse world which lies beyond the classroom walls. Our pupils are helped to develop an understanding and appreciation of different cultures, religions, family composition, current affairs, puberty, drugs, finance, relationships, bullying, marriage and commitment as well as qualities such as honesty and integrity. Lessons allow children to explore topics which develop tolerance and respect towards others irrespective of their age, gender, belief, sexual orientation, race, etc. The over-riding principle is ‘to treat others as you would like to be treated yourself.’
